About the Authors

Patrick Barriot (born 1955) is a doctor specialized in anæsthesia, reanimation and emergency toxicology. He served in the French Army with the rank of colonel and was Head Physician of the French Civil Defense. As an expert on nuclear, radiological, biological and chemical hazards, he is currently carrying out research on the risks related to emerging bio- and nanotechnologies. He is the main author of the important book Treating Victims Of Weapons Of Mass Destruction: Medical, Legal And Strategic Aspects (John Wiley and Sons).


David Skrbina (born 1960) is currently a Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Michigan at Dearborn, where he created and teaches that university’s first-ever course in Philosophy of Technology. He has also served as a guest lecturer at Eastern Michigan University, and the University of Gent (Belgium). In addition to philosophy of technology, his research interests include philosophy of mind, metaphysics, and environmental ethics. Skrbina has published two books in philosophy, and has written numerous articles. Among his many current projects, he is preparing a collection of readings in technology criticism, for use as a college text.
