Through Dr. Patrick Barriot, writer of the book’s afterword and long-time correspondent of Theodore J. Kaczynski, we were offered the possibility of publishing The Unabomber’s works. This appeared easier to achieve outside the U. S. territory.
We immediately agreed to go ahead on this daring project. The reasons are simple actually : The Unabomber is an extremely controversial figure, as well as a myth. Everybody knows at least a little bit about him, and many people know about some of his writings. So far though, not one authoritative version of these writings was available for the public.
It so happens that these writings are interesting in themselves. Some of it is truly provocative and, even though much of it was deemed revolutionary some twenty years ago, today it is often viewed as common sense. Namely, that technology and industry are a major threat to humanity’s very survival. Had these writings not been of any interest, had it only been on account of its infamous author, we would not have gone ahead because that would have clearly amounted to an apology of his actions.
Therefore we decided to publish the original version and a French translation of Kaczynski's writings. (Hats off to Dr Barriot for his immense work with retyping, editing, and translating all these materials.) Our editions contains the only authorized version of the Unabomber's Manifesto (Industrial Society and its Future), as well as more than 75% of yet unpublished writings.
The U. S., Canada and G. B. edition will be published soon by Mosaic Press.
